All Politics is Local...
If you were holding your breath waiting for Real ID to emerge as a political issue in the mid-term elections, you can breathe easy. It now is...at least in Massachusetts.
Yesterday, Eileen McNamara, columnist, Boston Globe, made Real ID a political concern for Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey's Republican gubernatorial campaign.
Just days (three to be precise) after AAMVA, NGA and NCSL released their cooperative Real ID report, McNamara used the study to question Healey's proposal to require state-issued identification cards of voters at the polls.
McNamara asks, "How does the tax-cutting Healey plan to cope with that expense?" (in light of Real ID)
Asking candidates how they will "cope with" (read: pay for) Real ID in their state seems a fair question to ask of all those seeking election, or re-election.
What do you think?
Until next time, stay safe behind the wheel.
