It's a bittersweet day in DMV land
Today's post is no doubt off our beaten path, but nonetheless it's a very important one. It's about DMV people. California's Susan McBride, in particular.
Although she doesn't officially retire until November 20, today is Susan's last day in the office working for the residents of California.
I've gotten to know Susan quite well over the last five years or so, and she has been not only a dedicated public servant to Californians, but also a dedicated volunteer to the AAMVA community.
While most Californians that interact with the DMV have probably never met Susan, they have no doubt been touched by her work in Calif.'s publishing an online branch. So, if you've ever been to the California DMV's Web site, you've met Susan (or at least her work).
As a volunteer to the AAMVA community Susan participated in numerous committees and working groups. And for the last several years, she served as a coordinator for AAMVA's international public affairs awards program. Simply put, without volunteers like Susan, AAMVA would not be in the position it is today as a leading advocate for highway safety and ID security.
Susan, I just want to say thanks. AAMVA, and I, will miss you.
Best to you and your family in retirement.
Until next time, stay safe behind the wheel.
