When even the media understands the privacy vs. security balance
Now this is really getting interesting. And I told you it would!
In today's USA Today Opinion section, the "Our view/Opposing view" column hosts perspectives on the recently released federal rules for the Real ID Act.
Surprise, surprise, the ACLU's Anthony Romero dusts off the ole school trite arguments against Real ID. And after numerous years inserting themselves into the debate, this privacy extremist group still fails to offer any substantial strategy for repairing our nation's driver's license framework.
But perhaps, in an even bigger surprise, (at least to me because I'm always looking for the mainstream media to lean to the hard left) the USA Today editorial board speaks some common sense about Real ID in the "Our view" column.
Far be it from me to take a position either way. I just want you to understand how this law affects you and understand who is speaking truth and who is just speaking to hear themselves speak. And if you really want to get deep into fixing the driver's license framework, I urge you to commit some time to reading AAMVA's DL/ID Security Framework. This was written by the folks who have been issuing driver's license for over 100 years--your DMV administrators.
Until next time, stay safe behind the wheel.
